Melbourne Victory head coach Jeff Hopkins shared his thoughts following Saturday afternoon’s opening day 1-0 defeat to Western United.
On the performance…
“It was a tough game. We struggled to penetrate and our passes were regularly running out of play.”
“We did come in very positive at half-time. We were confident that we could play well in the second half.”
“But in the end it didn’t happen for us and we couldn’t find a way through.”
On the players’ fitness…
“We had to be really careful of a number of things which were in contention heading into today.”
“We didn’t want to push anyone too hard.”
“Lots of players have been up and down through pre-season – in for a day, out for a day.”
“But everyone will hopefully be ready for next week.”
On the missed chances…
“I think in two weeks time we will be finishing those chances off.”
“The pleasing thing for me is that we created a number of chances in the second half.”
On the stand-out performers…
“I thought KK (Elise Kellond-Knight) was excellent.”
“It was amazing to see her back out there.”
