Melbourne Victory head coach Tony Popovic spoke to the media following Saturday night’s 2-1 loss to Central Coast Mariners.
On the performance…
“Tough game. It’s always a tough game here.”
“It’s a game where we really didn’t take our opportunities when they came. We had a lot of good moments, key moments where we didn’t score when we had the chances, especially in the first ten minutes.”
“Today the effort was there. We had numerous opportunities, we didn’t take them.”
“We played well enough to win that game, but the key moments are hurting us at the moment.”
On the improvements…
“I thought they (the players) were good today. Very good.”
“I thought we started the game excellent. Had some good opportunities we didn’t take.”
“We came back after a goal down so that was good, we showed character.”
“We had the chance of the game in the second half, inside the six-yard (box), we missed it.”
On where the game was lost…
“Set pieces have hurt us now the last two games.”
“That is something we’ve got to improve and do better.”
