Melbourne Victory Head Coach Tony Popovic fronted the media following his side’s 2-1 loss away to Newcastle on Sunday afternoon.
On playing away from home in tough conditions…
“In tough conditions, we played very well, away from home.”
“We came back, we showed good character, we came back.”
“With a performance like that you really should be coming away with something, if you can’t get the three, we should’ve got at least a point.”
“It’s a hard one to take, we’re getting punished for the little moments, lapses in concentration.”
On taking chances…
“We didn’t take our moments, and in the end, we come away disappointed.”
“At the other end, we’re not taking the moments that change games.”
On Chapman and Da Silva’s debuts…
“I thought Connor had a good game, I thought he had a good solid match. He’s only been training with us for a few days.”
“I thought Damien was outstanding, for a guy that’s come from the winter, training and playing in very cold conditions, to being here for a week, and performing the way he did.
“You can see he (Da Silva) is a very good footballer, he’ll only get better, and he’ll help our team improve.”
On ladder position and the remainder of the season…
“Everyone looks at the table, but look, for us, it really doesn’t matter what anyone else is doing, it’s about what we do.”
“We need points, unfortunately today, we got punished for a couple of moments.”
