A-League Men’s coach Tony Popovic spoke to the media post-match after his side’s win over Newcastle Jets.

On the performance…

“Obviously very good if you can score five. We could have scored more.”

“We conceded three goals which isn’t great. We need to work on a few things there.”

“We’re certainly not the finished article…but it’s a good start at home.”

On Bruno Fornaroli’s performance…

“His movements are of a quality striker in the box.”

“He still works hard for the team. He’s able to get [to dangerous positions] a lot easier due to his fitness and his conditioning.”

“Obviously he’ll be very happy tonight. I’ve already spoken to him – he wants more next week.”

On Daniel Arzani’s home debut…

“Last week he was solid. He put the effort in without much of the end product or quality that we know he possesses.”

“You have to remember how much football he has played in the last two to three years has been very limited.”

“He loves football. People don’t quite understand that about him.”

“Today was an improvement and I’m sure he wants to keep getting better.”

On the improvements so far this season…

“Maybe our mindset is different.”

“We didn’t look like we were shellshocked by the early goal.”

“The reaction was excellent.”

“We’re still very early. We know there are many more challenges to come.”

“As long as we know we can keep getting better, that’s they key.”

On the importance of the fans…

“It’s huge. It’s so good to see them all back.”

“To see them all there before the game and hear the noise. We could feel it on the sideline.”

“There’s a lot of pride at this football Club. I’m happy that we could give them the five goals to celebrate.”
