on the start to the season…
“There could’ve been so easily that we’re sitting here with a few more points in the bank, but I truly believe that the way the group has conducted itself and the way the group has performed throughout the games – not for the full games – is going to hold us in very good stead.”
on Leroy George’s start to his Victory career…
“First of all, we put him out there maybe when it was a little bit too early for him. Secondly, we’ve moved him around quite a bit so him personally as an individual hasn’t really had too much continuity, he hasn’t played with the same players on his wing or in the front third in any game so he’s had a lot to deal with it, but good players can deal with those situations and he’s been good.”
on Besart Berisha’s return from suspension…
“He’s been in the league now for five, six-odd seasons and I don’t think he’s approached any game differently. He still won’t take a backward step, he’s still got a fierce desire to win and succeed and score goals. If anything, this weekend – as he said yesterday – the last two weeks he’s shown a genuine remorse about what’s happened and a genuine remorse for his team-mates that he’s not been able to help in a time of need so hopefully we’ll see him work even harder for his team-mates tomorrow and that’s what I expect.”
“I’m very happy to be back. It’s the game I love, the game I want to play. It’s been a tough time for me seeing the boys fighting on the field and I’m not there for them so I’m very happy to be back.
“We want to definitely go out on Saturday and try to win the game and try to score a lot of goals. We need the three points badly and we want to win, that’s for sure, and we are positive and we have the players with Jai (Ingham) and Leroy (George) that have proved in the past that they can come in and do the job and I believe we can.
“It’s never bad if you try too hard. It just has to click once… We need the win. We need a win badly and I believe after this, we will go (forward). We have everything it takes to compete in this league, to win this league but it just has to click and I hope it’s this weekend.”
- Victory is undefeated in its last eight games against the Roar at Etihad Stadium, winning five and drawing three.
- The last time a Hyundai A-League clash between Victory and the Roar was won by an away team was at Suncorp Stadium in April 2015.
- Leroy George has created a league-high 16 chances so far this season.
