Melbourne Victory midfielder Matias Sanchez can’t wait to play at AAMI Park for the first time in the Melbourne Derby this Saturday.

Sanchez is hoping his experience in big derbies in Argentina will be a deciding factor against Melbourne City.

“The Derby at AAMI Park, it’s all new to me here,” Sanchez said.

“I’m very excited because I have played in a lot of derbies [in Argentina].

Sanchez believes the Derby has come at a good time for Victory, who defeated Brisbane Roar last Sunday.

“We did a good performance the other day in Brisbane but now we’ve turned the page, now we have the Derby.

“Our fitness is good and we trust what we’re doing so this is a good moment for us.”

The Argentine, who has featured more prominently in recent weeks, has been focused on playing his role and contributing where he can.

“The more games you play, you get more confident and when I go on the field I feel I can do my job.

“The other day I blocked Rhys’ marker which allowed him to score, so I have to do my job when I go on the pitch.”
