Melbourne Victory midfielder Matias Sanchez believes the key to Sunday’s clash with Wellington will be the team’s intensity.
Coming off a big week on the training pitch, including a tough session in Wellington on Saturday morning, Sanchez was confident the team could achieve the right result.
“We always train with high intensity, it’s the way we play,” Sanchez said.
“Tomorrow, the key is high intensity and going forward every time.
“If we play with high intensity, we will beat them.”
Despite an underwhelming start to the season, with only one win on the board, Sanchez was adamant the Victory squad still has belief.
“We believe in ourselves, the results are not good but a coach once told me champions believe in themselves even when no else does.”
Sanchez’s opportunities have been limited in the early stages of the season as he competes with a number of players for a spot in the midfield.
The Argentinian was under no illusions of the opportunity in front of him and his teammates as they prepare to face the bottom-placed Phoenix.
“All the players want to play but the coach makes the decisions and I have to respect the decision.
“But I always want to play and tomorrow it’s big opportunity for me and for all the team to win.”
