Sandown Lions Soccer Club will be treated to a visit from Melbourne Victory superstar, Harry Kewell, after the team took out the “Victory for a Local Club” competition.

Melbourne Victory was overwhelmed with entries in the community competition, but the Lions came out on top in the end.

As well as a highly sought after visit from the star striker, the club will also receive over $4,000 worth of prizes, including;

* Signed Melbourne Victory merchandise
* A $2,000 adidas equipment pack
* $500 KFC voucher
* $500 Body Science supplements voucher
* $500 Oliana Foods voucher
* $1,000 community grant

General Manager, Operations, Trent Jacobs, said the Lions were a worth winner of the competition.

“With over 240 registrations, it was a tough decision, but the case for support, put forward by Sandown, was compelling.”

“They are a small club, but through adversity, cultural barriers and financial sustainability issues, they continue to field teams and support their participants.

“While there is only one winner, we-d like to take the opportunity to thank all clubs for taking part in our competition. We were quite taken aback with the interest, and it was overwhelmingly clear the amount of passion that so many have for their clubs and trying to improve them,” said Jacobs.

Sandown Lions Soccer club President, Philip Kramer said “Sandown Lions are incredibly excited to have won this magnificent prize from Melbourne Victory. When I informed the players last week of the news of our win, the look on their faces was priceless. When I mentioned to them part of the prize was meeting
Harry Kewell, they were overwhelmed at the opportunity to meet their idol.”

“Sandown Lions has struggled as a club to keep going so this prize from Melbourne Victory is absolutely awesome. It will help us to get some new training equipment and further the Sandown Lions dream.” said Kramer
