Soodox Medical Room: Geria nears a return, Spiranovic set to miss

We head into the Medical Room with Soodox to get the latest on the squad heading into the World Cup Break.

It’s positive news for Jason Geria as he nears a full recovery from the hip injury that hampered the fullback’s start to pre-season.

Geria had surgery at the start of the squad’s pre-season and after completing a training regime that has seen him re-integrated into the squad, Tony Popovic has confirmed Geria could make a return as early as Friday night against Newcastle.

“He’s trained fully, he will do another session today,” Popovic said.

“We need to check with Jason that he feels comfortable and ready, which we’ll do after today’s session and if he’s fit and healthy and happy to go, then we’ll have him in the squad on Friday.”

Popovic also confirmed that defender Matt Spiranovic won’t return before the World Cup break. Spiranovic underwent a clean-out of a foot injury on Wednesday and will be monitored throughout the break for a return.

“It’s just a little clean-out procedure he did for a problem that’s been bothering him for a while,” he said.

“We don’t envisage it would stop him coming back fit and healthy. He’ll be out for a little period, it’s hard to say how long because he’s just had the procedure. So we’ll have a look at it with our medical staff and speak to the doctors and we’ll know a lot more soon.”
