Stats analysis: Victory 1-2 Sydney

Stats analysis: Victory 1-2 Sydney

Take a look at the stats that mattered in Melbourne Victory’s 2-1 loss to Sydney FC in Round 17 of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season.

Match comparison

Victory had more shots than previous weeks, but missed opportunities proved costly against a more clinical Sydney.

The Sky Blues scored their two goals from only a handful of shots on target, while again Victory had more shots from inside the box.

Possession was relatively even, with Victory recording almost double the amount of crosses for the match.

Back in action

Both Jason Geria and Fahid Ben Khalfallah, who missed Victory’s loss to Perth Glory through suspension, returned to the starting XI against Sydney.

Geria was in the thick of the action all night, recording team highs for touches and duels won, while Ben Khalfallah was busy on the left wing, setting up Victory’s goal in the 18th minute.

Victory’s double act

For just the second time in seven seasons, two Victory players have reached double-figure goal tallies.

Besart Berisha (13) and Marco Rojas (10) have already achieved the feat with 10 rounds remaining this season, with Berisha and Archie Thompson the last pair to both score 10 goals or more in the 2014/15 season.
