Melbourne Victory is pleased to announce Thomas Deng has signed a contract extension, tying him to the Club until the end of the 2019/20 Hyundai A-League season.

“It was an easy decision for me to extend my contract here,” Deng said.

“I’ve loved my time at Melbourne Victory to date and can’t wait to see where this squad can go.

“We’ve got a lot of new faces in the team this season, we’ve built some terrific depth and we’re committed to working hard day in, day out. It’s an exciting time to be a part of this Club.”

Deng first joined Melbourne Victory on a youth contract in 2015, quickly winning his way into Head Coach Kevin Muscat’s senior side.

He made his senior debut in the FFA Cup Round of 32 match against Balmain, before featuring off the bench in the Club’s season opening clash with Adelaide.

A week later Muscat handed Deng a first start in front of 40,000 fans in Victory’s 3-2 derby defeat of Melbourne City.

Deng’s performances during the 2015/16 season caught the eye of Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven, who he joined on a season-long loan deal for 2016/17.

He returned to play an important part in Melbourne Victory’s 2017/18 Championship triumph, with his form recognised by selection amongst the substitutes in the PFA Team of the Year come season’s end.

Already capped at underage level, the 21-year-old recently made his Socceroos debut, coming on in the 76th minute of Australia’s 4-0 victory over Kuwait in Kuwait City.

“It was an honour to win my first senior cap.

“Playing at international level was a great experience and I’d love to be involved in future squads.”

Head Coach Kevin Muscat was excited by the signing.

“Thomas’ story is a great one both on and off the pitch and we’re really pleased to have his services for another season beyond the current campaign.

“His attitude and application is always first class and we’re so proud of what he’s been able achieve in his time with us.”
