Melbourne Victory can announce its Captain and Vice-Captains for the A-League Men’s team ahead of the 2026/27 season.
This begins away to Wellington Phoenix on Sunday, October 18, kick-off 1:00pm AEDT.
It will come as no surprise to the Victory members and fans that, after captaining the team for much of pre-season, Melburnian defender Jason Davidson will wear the armband for Giovanni Savarese’s team, supported by experienced defenders and new Club Vice-Captains, Tom Lockyer and Philipp Ziereis.
Davidson, a 23-time Socceroo, is preparing for his third season at Victory across two spells, having first represented the Club in 2021/22 before returning last season armed with further experience playing in Europe. The 35-year-old is in line to make his 50th A-League appearance for the Boys in Blue during the Matchweek 1 clash versus the Phoenix.
A-League Men’s Captain, Davidson, commented:
“It is a huge honour and a privilege to play for Melbourne Victory and represent the Club’s values on and off the pitch. Now wearing the armband, having grown up as a Melbourne boy and a Victory fan, this is a proud responsibility for me to uphold.
“Being a leader at Melbourne Victory means living the standards of the Club through every action at training, in the changing room and on match day, and I look forward to doing that with the support of Tom, Philipp, and the leadership team for this season.”
Lockyer, a commanding presence, skippered Luton Town on their memorable return to the Premier League after being a mainstay of their rise, and has represented Wales on 16 occasions in senior internationals.
Ziereis, who wore the armband in the AFC Champions League Two win over FC Seoul on Wednesday night, is revered for nine seasons at St. Pauli FC, which he followed up by representing LASK in the UEFA Europa League.
An extended leadership group of experienced and emerging players will be announced during the season.
