Morshead Park Stadium in Ballarat played host to an NPL2 West double-header between Ballarat City and Melbourne Victory’s Senior and Under-20 sides on Saturday afternoon.
However, there was more for each side to play for with both clubs celebrating exactly what makes our game so great – diversity.
With the help of Melbourne Victory’s major community partner WorkSafe, this past weekend’s NPL Victoria action saw Diversity Round come to life, celebrating the many cultures and nationalities who share a common love of football.
Melbourne Victory Clubs and Female Engagement Manager Gulcan Koca said the promotion of Diversity Round was an important part of the Club’s role in the community.
“We value the partnerships we hold with our Club Victory club members throughout Victoria, and to be involved with Ballarat City to support such an important initiative was fantastic,” said Koca.
“Diversity Round is important to us as a club and to the footballers involved because our sport is played by so many people from different cultures and nationalities around the world.
“To be able to bring everyone together through football is a unique and special aspect of our game that we want to celebrate.”
Medals were presented to those voted best on ground in both matches between Ballarat City and Melbourne Victory. Congratulations to Ned Mitrovic and goalkeeper Ryan Schorback of the Ballarat City Under-20 and Senior sides for winning their respective player-of-the-match awards.
