Victory co-create Immigration Museum Exhibition

Melbourne Victory is proud to have co-created the Home is Football: Belonging in Australian Soccer exhibition at the Immigration Museum.

The exhibition opens on Saturday, June 13, as the World Cup gets underway, and is available during the museum’s operational hours, 10am-5pm.

Victory Members will be emailed a two-for-one Immigration Museum ticket voucher, valid Saturday, June 13 2026, until Tuesday, January 26 2027.

Visitors will discover inspirational stories that go beyond winning and losing on the field, delving into how the world’s game is a source of community for Australians from a broad range of groups and identities.

These include the journeys of former Victory players Thomas Deng, whose life started in a Kenyan refugee camp, and Lydia Williams, the first Indigenous and longest-serving goalkeeper to play for the Matildas, and Bahara Kohistani, formerly of the Victory Afghan Women’s Team.

Each looks beyond the pitch and into the heart of the intersection of football and Australia’s communities.

Museums Victoria CEO & Director, Lynley Crosswell, said:

“These stories offer such a beautiful insight into the power of sport to forge communities and create a sense of belonging.

“Football has become a home and safe space for so many waves of immigrants moving to Australia, so an exhibition like this fits perfectly in the Immigration Museum’s welcoming walls.”

Melbourne Victory Director of Football, John Didulica, commented:

“Melbourne Victory is especially proud to have played a significant role in the curation of the Home is Football at the Immigration Museum here in Melbourne.

“On a global scale, little if anything else achieves the positive and uplifting connection of people and the creation of authentic community than the world’s game. The exhibition explores this theme and celebrates how the fusion of people and experiences establishes an unrivalled feeling of belonging.

“I encourage all Victory Members and fans to visit the exhibition.”

Home is Football has been produced with support from Melbourne Victory Football Club and Professional Footballers Australia.
