Victory ready to win: All eyes on ALW finals

Melbourne Victory have capped off an extraordinary A-League Women’s season with a convincing win over Brisbane Roar FC at AAMI Park.

The win marks a huge milestone in a history-making season, with Jeff Hopkins’ side going unbeaten in their last 13 matches and smashing the Club’s previous unbeaten record along the way. It’s been a season defined by grit, consistency and belief.

Head Coach Jeff Hopkins praised his side’s resilience and hunger across the campaign.

“I’m really proud of the team,” Hopkins said. “This is the best season we’ve ever played. Our biggest haul of points. 53 points is great for us and this makes seven wins in a row, our 11th clean sheet for the season.

“We are in really good shape and looking forward to the finals series. I put it down to the playing group. They are a really determined group of players.

“They are all technically very good, but are comfortable to push the sleeves up and go out there to work hard and do what they need to do to win games,” Hopkins continued.

“They really want to win this year and that focus has been really important for us. They have worked really hard.

“Every international break we have played games, they are super fit and every day, they come in they leave everything out on the field.”

Led by attacking threats Emily Gielnik, Alana Jancevski, Nicki Flannery and Kayla Morrison, Victory’s firepower has been on full display. Gielnik finishes the regular season among the league’s top scorers, while the backline has stood tall all year, with Victory recording the most clean sheets in the competition.

Now, all eyes turn to the Finals Series. Victory will have a week off before their semi-final campaign kicks off in week two of the series set for May 2-4.

Finals fixtures and ticketing information will be confirmed following the conclusion of Round 23 on Sunday evening.

With sights now on the semi-finals, Victory Women are firmly on the road to the Championship.
