Melbourne Victory is delighted to announce that it has signed promising goalkeeper Matt Sutton until the end of the 2019/20 Hyundai A-League season as a scholarship player.

Originally from Sydney, the 17-year-old joined Victory from the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and is currently completing his Year 12 studies, via correspondence, in Canberra.

Sutton was a member of Victory’s National Youth League (NYL) set up and was recently included in the club’s 24-man squad for the AFC Champions League.

“It’s a great opportunity to play for the biggest club in Australia. I’m really excited to learn from Dean [goalkeeping coach, Dean Anastasiadis] and train alongside Lawrence [Thomas] and Matt [Acton] every day,” Sutton said.

Goalkeeping coach Dean Anastasiadis has been impressed with Sutton’s work ethic.

“Matt has worked exceptionally hard since joining the club and shown a great attitude to training,” Anastasiadis said.

“I look forward to watching him develop and hopefully one day we’ll see him as Victory’s number one.”

Sutton will wear number 40 in Victory’s Hyundai A-League squad.
