Despite losing key players during the off-season, Thompson was confident there was still great talent looking to step up on to the big stage.
“I think we’ve got plenty of depth… we’ve got good young talent coming through and these guys who have been on the fringes have got a good opportunity because now they’ve got a pre-season under their belt and they know what is expected of them in our team, so they are all stepping up,” Thompson said.
Thompson said he was pleased to be back with the squad after several stints away with the Socceroos.
The 34-year-old also said the group was shaping up well ahead of the October 12 season kick-off against cross-town rivals, Heart.
“Everyone’s in a good spot at the moment, everyone’s looking fit and we are progressing nicely and everyone is really positive.”
