Kosta Barbarouses has arrived at Melbourne Victory and is preparing for one of the biggest seasons of his career.

The 23-year-old joined his new teammates for the first time today and said he was ready for a big Hyundai A-League campaign.

“I watched a fair bit of the A-League last season and it was a really good year for the competition, I’m expecting abit step up from then and I think we are building a good squad at Victory, so I think it will be a tough year,” Barbarouses said.

The New Zealand international is playing regularly with the national side as the Kiwis look to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Barbarouses narrowly missed out on a call up to the 2010 squad in South Africa, so regular game-time was high on his agenda in the lead up to football’s biggest stage.

“I weighed up my options and when Melbourne came along it was the best option for me to come back and just play. I know Ange (Postecoglou) and I know what he can get out of me, so that’s something I am really looking forward to.”

And it isn’t just Postecoglou Barbarouses was looking forward to linking up with again, following his new club’s recent signing of his former Brisbane Roar teammate, Mitch Nichols.

“We worked very well together and looking back at some of my goals he definitely provided a lot of assists for them, so I’m looking forward to working with him again.”
