Melbourne Victory’s Championship winning W-League side will take on Canberra United, ahead of Victory’s huge Round 3 Melbourne Derby at Etihad Stadium.
Speaking at Etihad Stadium today, Victory stars Adrian Leijer and Brianna Davey said they were thrilled both teams would be able to perform at a world-class venue on one of the most anticipated fixtures for the 2014/15 Hyundai A-League season.
“To play a double header in front of the men is awesome and hopefully it will help the league grow and help women’s football grow,” Davey said.

Victory defender Adrian Leijer echoed the sentiments of his club colleague and believes the fixture could provide an important boost to women’s football in Australia.
“It’s before a massive Melbourne derby so it’s fantastic for the girls to get the opportunity to play before the men,” Leijer said.
“Women’s football in this country’s come a long way. The more this happens, it’s going to continue to grow.”
Etihad Stadium CEO Paul Sergeant said the match would provide a great sporting spectacle for all Victory fans.
“We know we’ve got the Melbourne Derby, which is going to be a huge occasion,” Mr Sergeant said.
“Ladies football in this country has come a long way. The quality of football is fantastic and we encourage people to come down and watch the games and get behind the Melbourne Victory ladies.”
