Melbourne Victory captain Mark Milligan says outgoing coach Ange Postecoglou has left the club in a strong position to challenge for this year’s Hyundai A-League title.

Speaking at the team’s recovery session following a 1-0 win of an in-form Brisbane Roar side, Milligan said it had been a tough week for the players and the coaching staff after Postecoglou was named head coach of the Socceroos.

“(The win) was very pleasing, but I think it was more pleasing for us because it’s been a difficult week for everyone to stay focused, and to go on and beat one of the teams that will definitely be a contender this year,” Milligan said.

“We all appreciate what Ange has done at the club and now for the players it’s important for us to carry on the legacy that’s been set in motion.”

Milligan said there was also plenty of emotion in the rooms following the win.

“Ange had a good talk to us in the changerooms after, and it’s probably the most emotional I’ve seen him.

“It was a nice end and a fitting finish, and a final goodbye.”
