Following a month that saw the Boys in Blue record two wins and two losses, the Turkish Airlines Player of the Match winners in Victory’s Isuzu UTE A-League fixtures during January were all automatically nominated for the award.
With Greek striker Nikos Vergos voted as the winner for December for his five goals in four matches, let’s have a look at who’s up for nomination for the Turkish Airlines Player of the Month of January.

Louis D’Arrigo
Earning his first nomination for the award after winning the Player of the Match award in Victory’s Round 12 clash with Western Sydney Wanderers, Louis D’Arrigo’s strong performances in navy blue haven’t gone unrecognised since his first league appearance with the Club in late November.
Playing every available minute during the month, the 24-year-old central midfielder managed to notch his first Victory goal and maintain an average FotMob rating of 7.1 across January.
Ranking amongst some of the A-League Men’s players in his position for passing, crossing and interception statistical categories, D’Arrigo will certainly be pushing to win January’s Player of the Month award.
Matthew Grimaldi
Establishing his status as a player who lives for the big games following an equalising goal and a controversially ruled-out winner against Adelaide United in Round 13, Matthew Grimaldi finds himself back in contention for the Player of the Month award after receiving his first nomination back in October.
Recognised as the Player of the Match for his inspirational performance off the bench in the Original Rivalry, where he recorded a 7.3 FotMob rating in 23 minutes of play, Grimaldi worked his way back into the Starting XI in Victory’s final match of the month against Sydney FC.
Averaging a goal contribution in every 133 minutes of A-League Men’s action so far this season, the 22-year-old will hope to go one better from his previous nomination and take out the Player of the Month award for January.
Juan Mata
Up for selection to win his second Player of the Month award following standout performances in Victory’s wins against Perth Glory and Sydney FC respectively, Juan Mata has displayed his timeless class and quality in navy blue colours.
The Spanish footballing legend kicked the month off strong after providing two assists in Round 11 against Perth, and would later round out January with a remarkable performance in the Big Blue that saw the 37-year-old attacking midfielder register three assists.
Comfortably leading the league’s assist charts and finishing the month with an average FotMob rating of 8.0, El Mago is undoubtedly a strong contender to win January’s Player of the Month award.
