Melbourne Victory could not recover from an early blow against Northcote City FC in Round 11 of the VPL.
The Boys in Blue, reeling from their last-gasp loss to 10-player Melbourne Srbija last time out, suffered at the other end of the 90 on Friday night.
Northcote scored the game’s only goal inside a minute at John Cain Memorial Park, when a half-cleared long throw was speared in from the edge of the penalty box by Kasper Hallam.

Speaking to MelbourneVictory.com.au, Senior Academy Head Coach, Besart Berisha, expressed anguish at an outcome at odds with his team’s performance.
“It’s a frustrating result because I felt we were the better team in every aspect of the game. Conceding in the first minute made it difficult and forced us to chase, but the way we responded, creating chances, controlling the game, and playing better football than the league leaders was very pleasing.
“The only thing missing was putting those chances away. At this level, that’s the difference, and, unfortunately, today it cost us. We’re very disappointed not to come away with points.”
