Following a week of shock results in VPL1, Joe Palatsides’ team come into this Sunday’s clash with Werribee City four points clear on top of the VPL1 ladder.

Sunday’s game brings with it plenty of significance, with Northcote City, Preston Lions and Western United still hot on Victory’s heels.

Victory are coming off the back of a thrilling 3-3 draw with Melbourne City at Casey Fields.

Jesse Hoey, Jack Mihailidis and Tommaso Minutoli were the scorers for Victory, who claimed a point on a weekend where their three main promotion rivals all suffered defeats.

Werribee City meanwhile come into Sunday’s game in 13th position, having most recently drawn 0-0 with Bulleen Lions.

The Bees have relied heavily on their home form this season, having only claimed one win on the road thus far.

Nonetheless, Werribee have plenty to play for in Sunday’s clash, as they seek to make a late charge out of the relegation zone.

However, with just six rounds remaining this season, Victory are edging closer to a potential finish on top of the tree.

Such an outcome is far from a foregone conclusion though, with even teams nearer the bottom of the table having proven capable of posing major threats.

Victory and Werribee previously played in Round 8 this season, in a hotly contested and controversial affair where Victory came away with the three points, winning 4-1.

Memories of that game will likely spur Werribee to an even more determined performance, meaning Victory will need to bring their best if they are to return to the winners’ list.
