Melbourne Victory was beaten 2-0 by Sydney FC in the Westfield W-League on Saturday.

Goals in either half from Princess Ibini and Lisa De Vanna secured the Sky Blues’ win in wet conditions at Cromer Park.

The result left Victory with one win from its opening five games of the campaign.

The visitors fell behind in the third minute after a fast and ferocious start as Ibini fired in a low finish.

Victory had a chance to respond immediately, but captain Natasha Dowie’s effort was kept out by Sydney goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe.

Kylie Ledbrook hit the crossbar for the Sky Blues before Victory again went close, Jeon Ga-eul’s free-kick tipped over by Bledsoe just after the half-hour mark.

Melina Ayres squandered a great chance for the visitors early in the second half, blazing over from inside the area, and Sydney capitalised to make it 2-0.

After Remy Siemsen had a goal ruled out for offside, De Vanna struck in the 57th minute.

Victory continued to threaten – substitute MelindaJ Barbieri fired just wide after coming on and Dowie forced Bledsoe into another save – but the Sky Blues closed out their win.
