In a dominating performance, Melbourne Victory Women secured a convincing 4-0 victory over Western Sydney Wanderers Women at the Home of the Matildas.
The game opened with a flurry of attacks from both sides, as Melbourne Victory asserted early dominance with their sharp passing and offensive maneuvers.
The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when McKenzie Weinert capitalised on a poor pass from the Wanderers goalkeeper, firing a clinical shot past the keeper, putting Melbourne Victory ahead 1-0.
Despite Western Sydney Wanderers’ efforts to respond, Victory maintained control of the game, with Emily Gielnik and her teammates creating numerous scoring opportunities.
The second half saw Melbourne Victory continue their attacking momentum. In the 60th minute, Emily Gielnik scored her first goal of the match with a powerful header, extending Victory’s lead to 2-0 following a well-executed corner kick from Elise Kellond-Knight.
Melbourne Victory’s dominance was further highlighted in the 63rd minute when McKenzie Weinert netted her second goal of the game with a clinical header from close range, making it 3-0 in favour of Victory.
The final blow came in the 71st minute when Emily Gielnik unleashed a stunning long-range shot, leaving the Western Sydney Wanderers’ goalkeeper with no chance and sealing Victory’s commanding 4-0 victory.
Despite their best efforts, Western Sydney Wanderers Women struggled to contain Victory’s relentless attacking prowess throughout the match.
The final whistle blew and our girls in blue are now six games unbeaten as they sit fourth on the Liberty A-League table.
