Melbourne Victory is aiming for a third straight win in the Foxtel Y-League when it faces City in a Derby clash on Sunday.

Summary

Victory claimed wins over Adelaide United and Perth Glory before having a bye in Round 4 in Conference A.

Goals from Birkan Kirdar and William Wilson helped Victory past Perth in a deserved win last time out at AAMI Park.

It came less than a week after Nishan Velupillay scored a second-half winner in Adelaide.

Victory is third in Conference A with six points from three games ahead of its trip to CB Smith Reserve.

The clash against City will mark Victory’s third away outing in four to begin the eight-game season.

The last time Victory and City met was during the NPL season, when the former recorded a 3-2 win at Epping Stadium.

Head coach Gareth Naven’s pre-match thoughts

“Just try to get on with business as usual, wanting to have more intensity in our training, wanting to improve how we attack and defend and overall we want to try and get back on the bike quick enough and improve from the previous game, remember how it feels to perform and look to produce a performance that’s going to improve our players, develop our players and, our players like to win games, which is important. Our focus has been our intensity and what it looks like and how we do it and how we repeat it over the last week or so. It’s a derby, up against City, and it’s on us to perform at our best.”
