Melbourne Victory will play in its first Foxtel Y-League Grand Final when it takes on Sydney FC in the decider on Friday.
Summary
Victory booked a spot in the Grand Final with a 4-1 win over Adelaide United in the last round of the regular season.
That result at Epping Stadium saw it clinch top spot in Conference A after five wins in eight matches, finishing two points clear.
Luis Lawrie-Lattanzio scored a hat-trick in the win, while Joshua Varga netted a second-half stunner.
Lawrie-Lattanzio, 17, moved onto seven goals in as many Foxtel Y-League games this season as Victory delivered yet another fine all-round team performance.
Victory went on a five-match unbeaten run earlier this season on its way to winning Conference A.
It last won Australia’s youth competition in 2012/13 and makes the trip to Jubilee Stadium for the Grand Final.
Sydney finished top of Conference B by four points, winning five and drawing three of their eight matches.
Head coach Gareth Naven’s pre-match thoughts
“The message for us is have good energy in what we’re strong at, trust what we do, stay in the fight. It’s a one-off game, good challenge for our players against Sydney. We don’t know what they’re like, they don’t know what we’re like, only obviously what they’ve seen on video so I expect it to be a really competitive affair, Melbourne versus Sydney, the Big Blue. Just looking forward to the day and looking forward for the players to perform.”
