Melbourne Victory is eyeing back-to-back Foxtel Y-League wins when it hosts Perth Glory in the first half of Friday’s double-header.
Summary
Victory recorded its first win of the campaign by beating Adelaide United 1-0 away from home in Round 2 in Conference A.
It plays its first home game of the season at AAMI Park ahead of the Hyundai A-League clash between Victory and Perth.
Introduced off the bench, Nishan Velupillay was Victory’s hero in Adelaide, scoring the winning goal in the 75th minute.
Victory goalkeeper Matthew Sutton also had a fine outing, helping his team bounce back from their opening-round loss to Brisbane Roar.
Perth has collected one point from its opening two games, drawing 6-6 with City in Round 2.
Victory and Perth last met in December last year, when Glory recorded a 2-0 win at home.
Head coach Gareth Naven’s pre-match thoughts
“We’d like to pick up where we left off from Adelaide, especially in the second half. We learned a lot about ourselves the week before leading into Adelaide and we’re just trying to train our processes defensively and attackingly and get better and better and for our players to understand when they do it, how they do it and who does it. That’s been really our focus this week so it gives us an opportunity to try and repeat the performance.
“We understand Perth is a very combative team, very hard, work hard and they come to AAMI Park which is a nice stadium to play in. There’s a lot on offer when you come to AAI Park, especially for the opposition, and there’s a lot that’ll be on us as a team in regards to our home town, our home match, playing at AAMI Park, our home ground, so we’re looking forward to that challenge.”
