Giovanni Savarese
Head CoachSigning a two-year contract with the Club ahead of the 2026/27 A-League Men’s season, Giovanni Savarese is Melbourne Victory’s brand-new head coach.
Boasting a playing career that saw him play in his native Venezuela to venturing abroad to play in the USA, Italy and England, the forward would notably record 30 international caps for his country.
Hanging up the boots in 2004, Savarese would spend time in the youth development space before becoming the head coach of New York Cosmos in 2012. The Venezuelan would enjoy a highly successful spell with the Cosmos, lifting three Championships and Regular Season Titles, including an undefeated 2015 season.
Savarese would earn the opportunity to coach in the United States’ top flight in 2017 with the Portland Timbers. Leading the club to five postseason appearances, two MLS Cup finals and victory in the 2020 MLS is Back Tournament, his five-and-a-half seasons with the Timbers would see him become the longest-serving coach for the club in the MLS era.
Making the journey over to Australia to lead the Boys in Blue for the next two seasons, Savarese will aim to lift silverware in Melbourne with a strong, attacking brand of football that will excite the Victory faithful.
