Head Coach Tony Popovic spoke to the media after Victory’s late 1-0 loss to Wellington.
On the performance…
“We had some good openings, good opportunities around the box. I don’t believe it was our best performance with the ball. I thought we started quite slow in the first 30 minutes. We looked a bit sluggish on the ball.”
“I’m disappointed for the players because I thought they defended the box very well. We didn’t do very well in the middle third. I thought we weren’t great there, but I thought we defended our box really well.”
“Disappointed that we conceded that late goal.”
On the chances created…
“We had a lot of openings around the box, half a yard, but they defend very well. They’re desperate.”
“I thought we had some very good moments in the box we just didn’t make the most of and you know, in a tight game you’ve got to take those opportunities.”
On the conditions…
“It was obviously rainy. I don’t know how heavy it was for the players, but looked a bit sluggish.”
“We got better, I thought, back end of the first half and second half physically.”
