Victory’s Pollicina enjoying her time in navy blue

Rhianna Pollicina selflessly credited the coaching staff and teammates for her strong start to life at Melbourne Victory, who are preparing to host Perth Glory in the Ninja A-League Dub Round.

Hungry to bounce back after a narrow defeat in Victory’s away trip to Wellington during Round 4, Pollicina assured that the team has returned fit and firing for the clash on Sunday, November 30, kick-off 4pm AEDT.

“Obviously disappointed with the result, but I think the football that we showed in the second half was quality. We were just lacking that hunger to score a bit and just that clinical edge in front of goal.

“We’ve worked on a bit of shooting and attacking stuff and, hopefully, we can get the ball rolling against Perth.”

With Perth Glory as the opponents this Sunday, the midfielder emphasised the importance for her team to strike a balance between acknowledging their opponents and sticking to their own game.

“They’re a quality team, and they’ve been unlucky in some games. I think they’re very well coached, so they’ll get the respect they need.

“Our mentality this week is just to focus on us, do all our principles correctly and just be the best that we can and hopefully get the three points.”

Pollicina celebrates her 55th-minute goal against the Central Coast Mariners in Bundoora.

Proving herself already while donning the Big V as one of the league’s premier players, Pollicina is aiming to build on her strong showing at the Home of the Matildas that saw her score the game-deciding goal in Round 3.

“The home game is great, and I’m looking forward to having the home fans again. I heard a few Pollicina chants at the last game, so it was nice to hear that they’ve already sorted out a song for me.

“We know Perth will put up a good battle, but we want to put in a good performance.”
