Tom Lockyer is eager to impress himself on the dressing room at Melbourne Victory.
The 31-year-old centre-back, signed for the Club leading into the 2026/27 campaign, follows fellow defenders Harry Shillington, Philipp Ziereis, and striker Harry Sawyer in joining Giovanni Savarese’s squad.
He brings a wealth of experience at the highest level, having captained Luton Town in the English Premier League and earned 16 caps as a senior international for Wales, whom he represented at UEFA EURO 2020 and the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup.
Now the burning ambition is to add to his CV in Australia, and what better opportunity than with the Boys in Blue, who will fight on three fronts this season.
Speaking for the first time as a Victory player, Lockyer expressed his determination to win, and the satisfaction he takes from being at the epicentre of high-performance environments.
“Super excited to come and stamp my mark on this team and this changing room, [to] try and help breed a winning culture.
“I love being part of winning mentalities within teams; I absolutely love them. I think it gets the best out of everyone, so I am really hoping there are some other winners in that locker room who share the same idea and can push this team forward.”
After spending last term back at his first professional club, Bristol Rovers, Lockyer was not short of options for the next stage of his career. But the roadmap became very clear once contact was made from AAMI Park.
“When Victory come calling, I think you have got to answer. I am super delighted to be here.”
He added: “I have always wanted to play abroad, and after Luton, it was important for me to get back on the pitch and show everyone that I was fit and available again.
“After that it eased a lot of people’s minds about me being fit again, so there were a lot more options, but I was always set on trying to get abroad where possible.
“There were other A-League clubs that were interested, but didn’t feel right or I wasn’t as excited as when I had the call from Victory.”
