Victory Women completed its first Westfield W-League away assignment last week against Sydney FC Women, going down in a thriller 2-1 at Parramatta Stadium.
Victory Women Coach Matt Shepherd said the team was determined to return to the winners list on Saturday, with early points crucial in the 10-round competition.
”We were disappointed to go down, but we get the chance to turn things around this week at home,” Shepherd said.
”The guys have been looking forward to playing at Bob Jane Stadium, which is essentially our home base.
”We want as many Melbourne Victory supporters to get to the game on Saturday, and with the men away it gives them a chance to still catch some football.
”It would be nice to see a big crowd turn out and hopefully we can put on a good show for them.”
Victory Women had a chance to steal a point last week when New Zealand signing Marlies Oostdam stepped up to the spot to take a penalty just a minute from time, but her shot was well saved by Sydney Women goalkeeper Rachel Cooper.
Sarah Groenewald gave Victory Women a 1-0 half time lead when an impressive run on the right hand flank resulted in a goal, but the home side was able to steal the points thanks to second half strikes from Nicole Bolger and Leena Khamis.
More than 3000 people saw Victory Women record a 2-0 win over Central Coast Mariners Women in its first match a fortnight ago at Telstra Dome.
Tickets for this Saturday’s match will be available at the gate, with adults $5, children between 4 and 16 and concession $2, and children 3 and under free.
