Melbourne Victory completed an impressive come-from-behind win against Macarthur FC on Sunday afternoon, highlighted by a brilliant winning goal from Reno Piscopo.
Report
Victory controlled much of the territory and possession throughout the first half, slowly accumulating pressure on their opponents.
Reno Piscopo had the best early chance, but his finish was narrowly kept out by Filip Kurto in the Macarthur goal.
Nishan Velupillay and Zinedine Machach looked lively going forward, building on the control in midfield afforded by Jordi Valadon and Ryan Teague.
Macarthur looked most dangerous on the counter, but the Victory defence covered well to limit those opportunities.
The game though was still waiting for its opening goal when the half-time whistle blew.
The visitors started the second half brightly, seizing control of the early possession.
The bright start would soon lead to the opening goal of the match, as an accurate cross found Valère Germain in the middle of the box who headed the ball into the back of the net.
Victory had a golden chance to equalise just minutes later, when a well-worked move ended with Zinedine Machach in the box, but the midfielder blasted over the crossbar with the finish.
Patrick Kisnorbo’s team though would not have to wait much longer for the equaliser, as a penalty was awarded for handball soon after the hour mark.
Daniel Arzani had been subbed into the game just a few minutes prior and took on the responsibility from the spot, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and bringing Victory back level with just over 20 minutes to play.
The highlight of the match was still to come though, as just a few minutes later, Piscopo let fly from range to score an absolute stunner to give Victory the lead.
A superb finish from a long way out, with Victory having turned the scoreline on its head.
Jing Reec, Santos and Fabian Monge were all brought into the game during the final 10 minutes, as Victory looked to see off a late Macarthur charge.
The host’s defence was solid, holding on to secure a second straight win.
