Message from the Chairman and Managing Director

We know many of you will still be disappointed with Saturday night’s result (as are we), but we wanted to take the time, on behalf of everyone at Melbourne Victory, to thank you for your incredible support throughout the 2021/22 A-leagues seasons.

As our Active support rightly said at the start of this season, ‘Melbourne would rise again,’ and we believe we did just that. While we certainly want to take another couple of steps forward next season, each of you played a big part in restoring the way this Club goes about its football, both on and off the pitch, and we will continue to take those steps as we head towards next season.

While we will always strive for more, it is also important to celebrate some of our achievements this season, as they are what make us who we are today and lay the foundations for tomorrow.  With that said:

  • We won silverware in both the Men’s and Women’s competitions. The men won the final ever FFA Cup (with the tournament now renamed the Australia Cup) and Jeff Hopkins lead the Women’s team to back-to-back Championships becoming the most successful coach in A-League Women’s history.
  • The Club is supporting the Afghan Women’s National Team and their desire to play in exile, not because we have to, but because we, your Club, wants to do more, and we aim to truly lead, unite, connect and inspire people through our football.
  • We have completely rebuilt our Men’s squad under the guidance of Tony Popovic. We hope you will all agree that our team this season played with a sense of passion, hard work, discipline and respect, which is the high standard we expect from Melbourne Victory teams. Around the Club you can feel that season 2021/22 was just the beginning and the boys are already hungry to achieve more.

Importantly, we have worked hard to try and show genuine appreciation and respect for what our members and fans bring to the game and our Club.  There is no doubt, you are the benchmark in the A-Leagues and certainly rival all other supporter groups in Australian sport.

We know we are all still hurting from the weekend, but Melbourne Victory will never stop dreaming big and striving for success.

The horizon is looking incredibly bright for the Club and we cannot wait to see the Victory faithful supporting our teams in force again next season.

From the whole Club thank you for showing your faith in what we are trying to build, and we can not wait to see you all in numbers spurring the teams on again in season 2022/23.
