Melbourne Victory striker Archie Thompson has been named in an extended 35-man squad for the Socceroos- upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Qatar at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday, 15 October.
Thompson, who has netted three goals from four appearances this season, last represented Australia in a FIFA World Cup qualifier against China in March but was forced off early with a knee injury.
The dynamic striker is the third Victory player to be called up for international duty this week, following the selection of Carlos Hernandez and Jose Luis Lopez for Costa Rica-s two upcoming matches against Suriname and Haiti.
Socceroos Head Coach Pim Verbeek will monitor the fitness and performance of the selected Australian players in their respective domestic league matches over the weekend and may reduce the squad size prior to the team-s assembly in Brisbane next Wednesday.
