Victory fights back for W-League draw

Victory fights back for W-League draw

Melbourne Victory came from behind to draw 2-2 against Western Sydney Wanderers in the Westfield W-League on Saturday.

MelindaJ Barbieri and Natasha Dowie cancelled out goals from Linda O’Neill and Carmelina Moscato at David Barro Stadium.

Victory started well in Bulleen as Dowie and Melissa Taranto threatened, with the latter forcing a save out of Jada Mathyssen-Whyman.

Hayley Raso had a long-range effort kept out and Dowie almost opened the scoring, only to poke into the side-netting in the 37th minute.

Just three minutes later and Wanderers went ahead through O’Neill, who stayed onside before placing a finish past Melissa Barbieri and into the bottom corner.

Western Sydney doubled its lead in the opening minute of the second half when Moscato scrambled in a corner.

MelindaJ Barbieri pulled one back for Victory with a brilliant finish into the roof of the net in the 52nd minute.

Victory deservedly equalised with 15 minutes remaining as Dowie kept her composure to put away her first goal for the club.

After pushing for a winner, Victory had to settle for a draw ahead of a clash against Canberra United on December 19.
