Melbourne Victory is pleased to announce it has signed US defender Kayla Morrison ahead of the 2020/21 Westfield W-League season.
Morrison is currently playing for Swedish club, Morön Bollklubb and will arrive in Melbourne following the completion of the season.
Born and raised in California, Morrison’s move to the University of Kansas fuelled her professional career.
She played 83 consecutive matches for the Jayhawks and was named the Big 12 conference Defender of the Year in 2017.
The 24-year-old said she was thrilled to have signed with Victory.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to play for Melbourne Victory this season,” Morrison said.
“The club has been challenging for the W-League title for a number of seasons now, it is known for having a great culture and a very professional environment which Jeff Hopkins and his coaching staff have helped build.
“I’m looking forward to joining my new teammates soon, getting stuck into pre-season training and preparing for my first season in the W-League.”
W-League Head Coach Jeff Hopkins welcomed Morrison to the club.
“We are really pleased to have signed Kayla for the upcoming season,” Hopkins said.
“Our focus is to continue to build on the foundations we have established over the past two seasons. Kayla has all the attributes to play at the elite level and will add depth to our defensive stocks.
“We know Kayla is a very physical defender who won’t take a backward step. She is very good on the ball and has plenty of pace.
“We can’t wait for Kayla to join the squad as we continue to train hard for another big season which kicks off on December 27.”
