W-League report: Victory 0-0 Roar

W-League report: Victory 0-0 Roar

Melbourne Victory played out a 0-0 draw against Brisbane Roar in the Westfield W-League on Saturday.

Summary

Neither team was able to find a breakthrough at Epping Stadium in their second meeting this season.

Natasha Dowie had a great late chance for Victory but was denied as the reigning premier moved onto five points from as many games.

In what was an open start, Victory created the best early chance in the seventh minute, but Dowie was unable to get enough power on her effort after a Melina Ayres pass.

Just 10 minutes later and Victory goalkeeper Casey Dumont was called into action, denying Rylee Baisden at her near post.

Victory attacker Darian Jenkins forced a save from Mackenzie Arnold before Dumont bravely smothered at the feet of Tameka Yallop in the 28th minute.

But after the lively start to the half, both teams struggled to create much of note before the interval.

Dowie and Rosie Sutton almost combined for the opener early in the second half, while Dumont again dived at the feet of Yallop in the 55th minute.

While most of the play to begin the second half was in Victory’s attacking half, Brisbane pushed late on.

Dumont made a brilliant double save in the 74th minute, including desperately diving to deny Hollie Palmer.

The best late chance fell to Dowie, who was unable to beat Arnold in a one-on-one after Haley Hanson’s superb work and pass in midfield.
