Women’s Match Preview | Round 4 | Mariners v Victory

Melbourne Victory face another major test this weekend in the Ninja A-League, as they take on Central Coast Mariners in the Unite Round clash.

Victory will be aiming to secure consecutive wins when travelling to Sydney to take on the Mariners this weekend.

Jeff Hopkins’ team were impressive as they dispatched Western United last weekend, with Emily Gielnik’s hat-trick the most notable highlight from the 4-1 win.

As a result, Victory head into the weekend of Unite Round fixtures sitting second on the Ninja A-League ladder, just a point off top spot.

Saturday’s meeting with Central Coast offers Victory the chance to avenge last season’s Elimination Final defeat, which required a penalty shoot-out to separate the teams.

Victory will not be underestimating the Mariners, who have endured an incredibly difficult start to their campaign, already facing off against last season’s top three teams.

Central Coast have nonetheless remained unbeaten after three games, with Victory aiming to be the first to topple the team from Gosford.

Tight battles are expected across the pitch, although the one in the centre of the park is likely to be decisive, pitting two of the league’s best midfields against one another.

A cracking contest is in store for Saturday afternoon, with both teams hoping to head into the international break on a high.
