Melbourne Victory star Luis Nani spoke to media on Tuesday following his A-League Men debut in the Club’s 3-2 win over Sydney FC on Saturday.
Nani started and recorded an assist in the thrilling win.
On his A-League debut against Sydney FC…
“Everyone was excited for the beginning of the season and we didn’t know how the game would be. It was fantastic, it couldn’t be better than that…the atmosphere was fantastic.”
“It was a tough game with a lot of goals – a beautiful spectacle for the fans. I hope we can have more games like that, it’s what football is about.”
On Victory’s home opener against the Wanderers on Saturday…
“We’re very enthusiastic about our first game at home. We want to play in front of our fans and win our first game at home, it’s very important.”
“We want to be a team who competes every single week.”
On Chris Ikonomidis’ hot start…
“He’s a fantastic player. He’s a player who’s been working so hard in the pre-season, showing he wants to do much better this season.”
“I hope he can continue like that because he’s an important player to the team. When you have a player who can come on and have an impact like that, it’s so important.”
On his own start…
“My main target for the moment is to be able to play every single game, get my confidence back and be more connected with the team.”
“I just arrived at the Club – the more you play, the more the players know you and the more I know the players. As that happens, the goals and assists will appear.”
On the Melbourne football community…
“I like the environment here. People say there is no culture here about football but it’s not true, everywhere I go people recognise me and ask for photos, it’s nice. More and more they’re recognising me because of the league’s start – people are paying attention to our games and this sport.”
